An Integrated Strategic Planning Model
Helpcard
One of a two card set, presents the purposes
of planning, understanding the process, and the
steps.
We recommend you purchase both strategic
planning help cards. This one explains the steps
in words, while the second in the series
provides tips to make your planning come alive,
and shows a graphic flow chart representation of
the process.
Strategic Planning can be a complex process, and
as a result most companies don't receive much
benefit from their planning efforts. It works
best when it's guided by a comprehensive model
so that no parts of the process are lost. You
can use the model explained on this helpcard as
a guide to make your strategic planning
worthwhile.
Most strategic planning fails miserably. This
card, and it's companion, How To Make Strategic
Planning work will help you create dynamic
strategic plans that are relevant.
The Point: In leading strategic planning
sessions, I noticed two problems: First, it was
difficult to actually explain strategic planning
in everyday language, and help people see how it
can be used in real life to make a real
difference in what people do every day. The
second problem was that people tended to forget
that just doing a plan is worthless without
serious follow-up after the fact. So I created
two quick-read helpcards on the subject to deal
with these issues. This card, the first of the
two part set, maps out the process and the
linkages to make plans link to everyday
activities.
What's in it: Written by consultant and
author Robert Bacal, An Integrated Strategic
Planning Model Helpcard maps out the steps in
the strategic planning process. What's different
about an INTEGRATED model is that it brings
together strategic and tactical planning under
one umbrella, so that strategic plans can be
USED to make day to day decisions. Explains the
inter-relationships between the various
components like identifying values, establishing
a mission statement, and links to human resource
development, training, and goal setting.
That's one of the secrets of making strategic
planning documents come ALIVE, and not end up
gathering dust in the backs of desk drawers.
This 2 sided 8.5 x 11 inch card provides dozens
of hints, tips and principles to help you get
through to the boss. Here's what is on the card:
- The Purpose of Integrated Strategic Planning
- What's It For?
- Understanding The Process.
- The Components of Planning, From Defining
Organizational Values, Through Sub-Unit
Integration.
- Important Notes & Tips On Planning
Usage: These cards can be used to refresh
oneself on the strategic planning process, so
they are appropriate for all managers looking to
improve their planning. They are extremely
useful as handouts before or during strategic
planning sessions, to save time in explaining
the process. So, they are ideal for facilitators
and strategic planning leaders. We offer bulk
licence arrangements for the latter.
